Death Party
15 minutes
Single-channel video
Death Party is composed from sounds gathered over the past month from more than five hours of videos posted online from inside Iran during periods of severe internet blackout. These recordings capture fragments of a volatile moment: gunfire from security forces of the Islamic Republic opening fire on civilians, and the voices of Iranians, both inside and outside the country, reacting to the announcement of the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
The visual component of the work consists of X-rays of victims who were shot by the Islamic Republic during the protests of January 2026. The images reveal bullets and gun pellets lodged in their bodies, transforming medical records into stark evidence of state violence. Accompanying texts presented in the video are derived from materials published by Factnameh.com, a fact-checking platform dedicated to Persian news and social media.
The work brings together these conflicting sonic traces into a single channel. By focusing on sound, Death Party foregrounds how political events are experienced and transmitted through fragments.
Rather than documenting a single perspective, the work assembles an acoustic and visual archive of a historical rupture, where celebration and violence unfold simultaneously.
